5 Simple Ways To Improve Your Game

Learn the math

Don't make the mistake of miss-playing odds on the cards. Many Newbies get sucked into a playing a hand and hoping for that one magic card to show up. Of course you can be lucky and hit it, but over time this way of playing will lose you money.  There are many sites online that offer starting hand strengths - learn them. And now there are even some nifty little apps on the iPhone that do all the math for you - now there really is no excuse!

Read up

Knowledge is power, so try and read about some of the greatest players that ever lived. There is a plethora of books available on the market,  autobiographies are also a good way to get inside the minds of Pro players.  Each player has there own style, so by reading their books it will open your mind to new concepts and ideas that you never even thought of.  Another way of gaining useful knowledge is from online poker forums. There are plenty on the web, with people discussing everything from blind stealing to bad beats and best of all it's free, get involved!

Take notes

This is one thing that many beginners fail to do, in fact taking notes is of great importance.  Most online poker sites have a little box or tab next to the players name where you can note down vital information such as playing style, what hands they play, blind stealing e.t.c  Also pay attention even when you aren't playing a hand, too many new players get distracted,  until a hand comes up they want to play, by doing this you are missing information from the other players, which could help you take down the hand you do decide to play. Stay alert!

Track your own progress

There are a number of programs that will do this for you, tracking your own play and progress is essential to your development. Learn from your mistakes, there are plenty of programmes that do this automatically for you, or even having a little notebook by your side will do. Note the type of game, buy-in fee,  number of entrants,  and position you finished the tournament in. Some people even like to jot down the hands they play and if they won. By re-evaluating your own play you can spot leaks in your game and see where your going wrong.

Practice, practice practice
