This article explains the method of playing two fair when we match the hole cards along with 2 flop cards. The paradigm is probably playing either bottom/middle pair or a top pair/over pair in case if we hold flop card pair. If the flop card is T55, and we hold JT, then it’s better to treat this similar to top pair for the purpose of good strategy. You will collapse two pair matching the pair of hole cards roughly once after 50 hands. Similar to playing sets, our main concern with 2 pair of straights, strong draws and flushes to such hands. Another important thing about 2 pair is we can be less concerned about our opponents who hold a set since we have 2 of the flop cards in our hand.
Two pair can lose to a higher pair too, so our hand is at greater risk when we hold a bottom 2 pair. If we hold ninety seven of J97 flop card and our rival holds a jack, our hand is more vulnerable to other jack landing, and when our opponent hits the kicker card or a running pair in the subsequent couple of cards.
Another state which can happen is when we are against a flop two pair and overpair. We shall lose to a higher 2 pair in case of board pairing and the pair not being one of our 2 pair. The paradigms for 2 pair are exactly similar to strategies when we hold a set, although if we hold a 2 pair, it is less probable than a player will call for bet with us since we hold 2 flop cards in our hand. As a result, we need to be more cautious not to give free pair of cards. There are different types of flops and each of them holds different strategies as below,
Such types of flops are highly dangerous for 2 pair. There is better chance that our opponent can have a really good draw or we could be beaten already. We should always bet out into either 1 or 2 opponents since we should not give free card. If any opponent bets, we can either call or raise the flop and at the same time wait to see if turn card is positive for us.
We should always play 2 pair strongly by using such type of flops since we never want to give free card and we wish to collect bets from our opponents who make draws. It is specifically true, when there is huge money pot or when we are again many opponents. When we have a big pot we should raise at each and every opportunity or bet out mostly. We should consider the option of check-raising only when we are confident about the betting of our opponent.
