4 Important Tips for When in the Blind

When you are in the blind, you could check-raise and you should. When someone does check a big hand in the blind, the other players will not know how strong this hand really is. If the blind holds a big pair and flops a set, the player can check the turn, and maybe someone might bet, which will enable him to check and raise. When he does so, he will be sure that he has the best hand. Many players, who play in low-mid limit games, are always worrying about whether to let go of their blinds. If you have a hand like 8-5, it is not that likely you would be able to call a raise. Even if this raise is only worth one half of the bet for you, you simply can’t call it. If you are holding onto a suited hand like K-2, and you see there are about 4 to 5 other callers before it is raised, then you should definitely call. The reason is that, with four or more callers, you are getting about a 9-1 on your chips and you should hope to win, even the there is still a chance of letting the hand go. If you are lucky enough to win, your opponents wouldn’t have known how strong your hand was, until it took them down by storm. You will need a stronger hand, if you are planning to call a raise in the small blind. It is because; it will cost you more than half of one full bet. In many games, the price is at a bet and half to call the raise from the small blind. One example is as follows; in a $15-$30 game, the cost to raise in a small blind is a bet and one-third.

We have compiled some useful tips to use when you are playing in the blind. The list is just some of them, and you can definitely choose your own strategy and follow what works for you.

1. If you know it will cost you one bet and a half, always only play your best hand. Play most of the hands when the cost is at one-third of a bet. It will be extremely inexpensive this way.

2. If the recent flop has not helped you, just get rid of the hand when someone goes in for a bet.

3. If the recent flop is helpful to you, keep it right. However, the chances of making the first move on each betting round still exist.

4. Always, remember to play very few hands and play most of them carefully re-thinking your plan.
